IC Gathering 2024

Dear IC members and friends,

I hope this note finds you doing well.

I can’t believe that we will be gathering in South Africa next month! Our SA and the conference teams are working diligently to provide a good conference experience to everyone. I have recently been encouraged by Psalm 23, knowing that God is our shepherd as emotions of excitement and anxiety swing back and forth during this planning process. This Psalm has, for sure, been ‘Bread for my journey’ during this planning process.

Please continue to pray for our brothers and sisters who are in applying for visas to come to South Africa. It is been a challenging process so far. However, we are prayerfully hoping for successful outcomes.

As part of our conference tradition, we have T-shirts. But our SA team suggested something different, a traditional SA shirt we wear at celebration functions. Since we will be celebrating our 40th anniversary as IC, we (The SA team) thought that it would be appropriate to dress up for the occasion. Please place your order going to the website  here

It is time for people to pay the conference registration fee. It would be good if people could make payments by the end of this month. Here is the link to make the payment. Also attached is the draft conference schedule that we have come up with thus far.

Finally, as a reminder, please fill in the transportation form here if you already booked your plane tickets. Also, please sign up for the excursions that will take place on July 31, 2024 as soon as possible so that our SA team can finalise all the arrangements by the end of this month.

Dear IC members,

I hope this note finds you doing well. The days of our gathering in South Africa are fast approaching. The excitement of being together is increasing. I was recently listening to a devotional based John 15:1-4. I was reminded of the importance of being fruitful in my followership of Jesus. And one of the ways to show fruitfulness is by living out the fruits of the spirit: love, happiness, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I pray that you will experience the fruits of the spirit around you and that you will be a conduit of those fruits. I would like to invite you to pray for some of our brothers and sisters who are in the process of applying for their South African visas so that they can be allowed to travel.

The South Africa team is in the process of organising transport from and to the airport during youthXchange, the conference and the MSC face-to-face gatherings. The team here is talking to a local company that will be transporting groups of people. There is a transportation form to fill in. It will come in my next email. Please note that those of us who will be coming before and traveling after the scheduled dates of gatherings should make their own transport arrangements. South Africa has a very good rental car system that people could use.

As promised, the conference website is now available for your perusal. You can view it here. We also have a draft schedule available for your viewing. It is attached.

I also wanted to mention that we will have some guests amongst us. Some of those guests are four of our Novo co-labourers. Two will be coming from SentWell (Debbie Schuster and Laura Strahl) to team up with our care service team to care for all of us, if need be. Two others will be Jill and Bill Randall from the Lead team.

I would finally like to make a final call for registration. This is especially true for volunteers and the guests you invited. The end of registrations ( here ) will be June 15, 2024.

Espero que esta nota te encuentre bien. Los días de nuestra reunión en Sudáfrica están acercando rápidos. La emoción de estar juntos está aumentando. Recientemente, yo estuve escuchando un devocional basado en Juan 15:1-4. Me acordé de la importancia de siendo fructífero en mi seguimiento de Jesús. Y una de las formas de mostrar fecundidad es viviendo los frutos del espíritu: amor, felicidad, paz, paciencia, amabilidad, bondad, fidelidad, mansedumbre y dominio propio. Rezo para que experimentes los frutos del espíritu que te rodean y que serás un conducto de esos frutos. Me gustaría invitarte a orar por algunos de nuestros hermanos y hermanas que están en el proceso de solicitar sus visas sudafricanas para que se les permita viajar.

El equipo de Sudáfrica está en el proceso de organizar el transporte desde y hacia el aeropuerto durante YouthXChange, la conferencia y las reuniones cara a cara de MSC. El equipo aquí está hablando con una empresa local que transportará grupos de gente. Hay un formulario de transporte para completar aquí. Tenga en cuenta que aquellos de nosotros que vendrá antes y viajará después de las fechas programadas de las reuniones hacer sus propios arreglos de transporte. Sudáfrica tiene un sistema de alquiler de coche que es muy bueno que la gente podría utilizar.

I hope this note finds you doing well.

Bread for my journey as a follower of Jesus and a missionary is one of my favourite passages in Acts 2:43-47. This passage teaches me to be expectant of miracles and breakthroughs through my efforts of obedience. It also teaches me the value of gathering regularly with co-labourers like you in order to share the fruits of our efforts and bless one another with our wisdom, giftings and talents. It also reminds me of the beauty and importance of holy communion which I have been taught to do daily as a tangible sign to remember Jesus as the one I should strive to faithfully follow and point other people around me to as the Way, the Truth and the Life.

This passage makes me feel hopeful and expectant of what God will be up to when we gather in July and August. One of the ways we will minister to one another is through the sharing of our knowledge and wisdom in some areas. There will be space for workshops (please contact Darren if you have a workshop proposal). We will also be celebrating the 40th anniversary of InnerCHANGE (please send me some

ideas about how we could make the celebration fun and meaningful).

Our conference website is still under construction. We will send the website link to

you as soon as it is available. One of our traditions as InnerCHANGE is that of generosity toward one another. We need finances to host our conference and to help some of us get to the conference. In one of my next emails, I will write about how to

pay for the conference. In the meantime, those of us who may have extra money in our conference funds or those who can’t come and would like to donate some of

their conference funds, may you prayerfully consider making an internal transfer to fund #9410 (InnerCHANGE Conference).

El pan para mi camino como seguidor de Jesús y misionero es uno de mis pasajes favoritos en Hechos 2:43-47. Este pasaje me enseña a estar expectante de los milagros y avances a través de mis esfuerzos de obediencia. También me enseńa el valor de reunirnos regularmente con compañeros de trabajo como Uds. para compartir los frutos de nuestros esfuerzos y bendecirnos unos a otros con nuestra sabiduría, dones, y talentos. También me recuerda a la belleza y la importancia de la sagrada comunión que me han enseñado a hacer diariamente como un signo tangible para recordar a Jesús como a quien debo esforzarme por seguir fielmente y señalar a otras personas a mi alrededor como el camino, la verdad, y la vida.

Este pasaje me hace sentir lleno de esperanza y expectante de lo que Dios estará haciendo cuando nos reunimos en julio y agosto. Una de las maneras en que nos ministraremos unos a otros es a través del intercambio de nuestro conocimiento y sabiduría en algunas áreas. Habrá espacio para talleres (comuniquese con Darren si tiene una propuesta de taller). Nosotros también celebraremos el 40 aniversario de CambioInterno (por favor envíenme algunos ideas sobre cómo podríamos hacer que la celebración fuera divertida y significativa).

I hope this note finds you doing well. As we are looking forward to being together, I thought I could remind us that the purpose of our IC conference is to minister to one another. The theme of our upcoming conference, ‘Bread for the journey’ could not come at a better time than this. A bread for my journey as a InnerCHANGE missionary is to be surrounded by brothers and sisters who feel called to incarnational ministry in communities of poverty around the world and whose focus is to make disciples of Jesus and develop local leaders who are marked by merciful action, transformative contemplation and prophetic justice. I would love to see as many of you as possible come to the conference with a ‘bread of your journey’ as a missionary you could share with others. If you have not yet registered for the conference, you can do so here. For those of you who have already registered, for your transportation arrangements, please complete this form by May 31 so that we can coordinate transportation.

As the conference team prepares for a conference that would be meaningful to all of us, We would like to finalise our conference schedule with your hope, expectations and insights of the conference theme in mind. When you think about the theme ‘ Bread for the journey’ located in our contemplative current, what comes to mind? What comes to the surface as you think about things you could share and bless InnerCHANGE with? What would you like to learn? Please email your answers to ic.conference@novo.org.

It is important to note that we start our conference with dinner on the 29th. Please arrive at the venue by 4pm for registration. The conference program will end on August 3, 2024 after lunch. We have secured your accommodation for the night of August 3, 2024 to leave in the morning of August 4, 2024.

The conference team is still in the process of setting a website that will provide helpful information you need. The conference team will also be finalising the schedule soon and we will send it your way. Some people are wondering about yellow fever vaccination. Please note that South Africa requires proof of vaccination for people of certain countries. Please click here find out if you are a citizen of one of those countries.

Espero que todos estén bien. Como estamos deseando estar juntos, he pensado que podría recordarnos que el propósito de nuestra conferencia del CI es ministrarnos los unos a los otros. Me encantaría que el mayor número posible de ustedes viniera a la conferencia con un "pan de su viaje" como misionero que pudiera compartir con otros. Si aún no te has inscrito en la conferencia, puedes hacerlo aquí. I hope you are well. This is the beginning of a series of bi-weekly emails I will be sending out from now on. Our South Africa team is looking forward to hosting you all. In this preparation and planning process, I am surrounded by a conference team comprised of Darren Prince, Birgit Shorack, Erin Long, Cindy Carlson and Mariah Nix. We are in the process of designing a conference website that will give a lot of information needed to make your experience smooth and enjoyable. I would like to encourage all of you to start making your travel arrangements. After you have booked your flights, please fill in this form

so that we can start making arrangements for your transportation to and from the conference venue.

We will also be hosting youthXchange before the conference. We are excited that many parents will be sending their teenagers to participate in this experience. I am happy to announce that Mosky Kabongo will be the youthXchange coordinator. She will also be the point person for our teenager and kids’ activities during conference. Mosky has worked for 5 years as a Christian camp facilitator. Her experience as both an InnerCHANGE missionary kid and camp facilitator will be invaluable. There is also a team of people coming from the UK for the kids program that will be working under Mosky. I would like to encourage all the youthXchanger parents as well as all those who are planning to arrive in South Africa to make arrangements for their own accommodation. Attached is a list of accommodation options around the conference venue.In case you would prefer to stay at the conference site where your children will be, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can arrange. We are not promising that we will be successful, but we will try.
